Although Sshrishti had been initially working in its core focus area of education, Sshrishti’s holistic approach recognized that real change was possible in communities only with the essential participation of women. Women’s effective and gainful participation in the workforce is recognized not only as a precondition to holistic community development, but a fundamental indicator of how a nation treats the crucial half of its population.
In 2013 Sshrishti took more concrete steps to take this approach forward seeking to provide vocational training and skill-development opportunities to women from marginalized communities, and to secure marketing networks to provide sustained income generation for its beneficiaries. This skill provision-production-marketing model aims at effective capacity building to foster self-sufficiency and employability for women from impoverished neighbourhoods.
Geographically isolated and lacking in infrastructure, with a rural landscape and a patriarchal mindset, the underprivileged communities of Bhatti Mines and Aya Nagar, Delhi, witnesses women braving twice the marginalization. Vocational training and skill-building remains critical for both women’s economic self-sufficiency as well as for their quest of dignity and empowerment.
Sshrishti has reached out in aid and empowerment of these women through an income generating venture - our tailoring unit Sshrishti Jagriti. Through Sshrishti Jagriti the underprivileged but very talented women of Bhatti Mines and Aya Nagar create a wide variety of tailored and handcrafted products. These products are ecofriendly, contemporarily fashionable and of everyday practical utility. The proceeds of their sales facilitate their livelihoods and enable them to lead an empowered and dignified life.
Sshrishti Jagriti thus aims at Women Accessories:
1. Fostering awareness through community mobilization and participation.
2. Provisioning skill-development through craft training and vocational guidance.
